Bryant to Chicago Political Bosses: “Accept Governor’s Changes to SB 1”

Murphysboro….Following Governor Bruce Rauner’s amendatory veto of Senate Bill 1 on Tuesday, State Representative Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) issued the following statement.

“Today Governor Rauner followed through on his promise to make important changes to Illinois’ school funding formula by removing provisions in SB 1 that allow Chicago an unfair slice of the education funding pie.

By vetoing a bailout for Chicago teacher pension payments and removing a massive Chicago block grant for transportation and special education, which no other school in Illinois gets, the Governor has kept his promise to make education funding more fair and equitable for every student in the state.

I urge Senate President Cullerton and House Speaker Mike Madigan to quickly call sessions of the legislature to allow for the Governor’s changes to be accepted immediately. End the summer vacations, end the political posturing, get back to Springfield, and let’s accept the Governor’s changes to SB 1 so our schools can open their doors on time and our children don’t miss one day of their education.”
