Bryant E-News December 11, 2015

Dear Friend,

This week's edition of my E-news week in review will be much lighter on the policy side than last week. This past Monday, the Illinois Senate passed SB 2039 and Governor Rauner quickly signed it into law. The bill, as I told you last week, was created out of necessity due to the budget crisis.

The bill contains more than $3  billion in funding for 911 emergency response, local government distribution and motor fuel tax disbursements. The bill contains funding for IDOT and local road maintainers to have access to salt and supplies they will need to keep our roads safe in winter conditions.
The bill contained money to help energy customers with their electric and heating bills (LIHEAP). SB 2039 will also provide funding to pay vendors that provide food to our prisons, service to the Anna Veteran’s Home, the Special Olympics, road salt and supplies to keep our roads safe this winter, veterans, and victims of domestic violence. I was happy to vote YES for this bill to help provide much needed funding at a critical time in our state and I was glad to see Governor Rauner sign the bill so quickly.

Wounded Warrior Duck Hunt
I was so proud to join several area Wounded Warriors for the annual duck hunt in Ware, IL. You can view several photos of the duck hunt, which also brought out Illinois Department of Natural Resources Director Wayne Rosenthal. Thanks to the brave men and women of our armed services for their service and sacrifice. It is a privilege to count you all as friends.

Rep. Bryant is seen here speaking with students at Murphysboro
Middle School during her visit as Principal for a Day!
Principal for a Day
On Tuesday afternoon I was glad to have the opportunity to act as "Principal for a Day" at Murphysboro Middle School. I met some incredibly smart students. A few of the students showed me how to use  a water table. It's used to illustrate the way water flows through different types of soil. It is shared between Murphysboro and TriCo.  This is one of the only water tables in the region. The students and teachers were very excited about this. I had a great visit as Principal for a day in Murphysboro. Thanks to the administration, staff, and students for the warm welcome and the education!

Introducing Legislation for the 2016 Spring Session
I am currently in the process of filing several new bills to address serious issues in Illinois. I will have more information on my legislative agenda closer to the start of the spring legislative session in January. However, I want to invite you to submit your ideas so I can consider them. If you've ever thought to yourself "there ought to be a law..."then visit my webpage at www.repbryant.com and submit your idea via my contact form. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how together we can make Illinois a better place to live, work, and raise our families.

A busy week for business!
On Tuesday this week I met with the Little Egypt Regional Planning and Development Commission. Jackson, Jefferson, and Perry Counties are all involved in this vital Planning and Development Comimssion. I was glad to be a guest at their dinner and hear about the things they feel are important to growing our economy. I also met this week with the Jefferson County Development Corporation. They are doing fine work attracting business and planning for long term economic growth in Mt. Vernon and the surrounding area.

Rep. Bryant and the Jackson County Women's Professional
Networking Group
I also met with the Jackson County Professional Women's Networking Group. I had a great time having lunch with these fine professional women. It is encouraging to see what they have in store and I hope to continue to partner with them to grow jobs in our area.

Congratulations AT&T!
Congratulations to the AT&T store in Mt. Vernon on opening a new location on Broadway this week. The addition of the AT&T store completes a new development just north of the Mt. Vernon Mall. I was happy to join the fine staff at AT&T for the ribbon cutting.
