UPDATE: Illinois Drivers Must Now Sign Up to Receive License Plate Sticker Reminders Online

Murphysboro....Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White has announced that his office will immediately suspend mailing out vehicle registration renewal reminders to the public due to the lack of a state budget. Those who want to continue receiving a reminder must sign up to receive electronic notices through the Secretary of State’s web site www.cyberdriveillinois.com. A direct link to sign up for email alerts can be found on the home page of that site.

Below is a list of information for Illinois drivers regarding Frequently Asked Questions and procedures to obtain an electronic PIN.

Suspension of mailing of Vehicle Registration Renewal Reminder Notices
Background
Due to the lack of a state budget, the Secretary of State's office is suspending the mailing of vehicle registration renewal reminder notices. Motorists can sign up to receive reminder notices electronically by email, but will need to have their Registration and PIN number from the Secretary of State.

The Office of the Secretary of State anticipates resuming mailing out renewal notices once budgetary issues are resolved.
Registration Expiration Date

The month and year of expiration is printed on the sticker attached to the motorists’ rear license plate and is due at the end of the month of the expiration date. For example, a sticker that has an expiration date of October 2015 will expire on October 31, 2015.

Registration and PIN number

There are 2 options for obtaining the Registration and PIN number.  Motorists may check their current registration card or call the Secretary of State’s Public Inquiry Division at 800-252-8980 to obtain their Registration ID and PIN number.

Email Notification Time Frame

As long as motorists register to receive their registration renewal notice by email prior to the expiration of their current registration, they will be receiving a notice via email.  It takes “one renewal cycle” if motorists register to receive the email renewal notice after their current registration has expired.

License Plate Renewal Costs

The cost for renewal is the same as last year. It is shown on your registration card.

Please see link below for specific annual renewal fees:
